As part of our updated 4H Civic Engagement efforts, this year we’ll be doing continued community service opportunities, as well as other things that help us to learn more about our community and becoming engaged citizens. Therefore, we’d like to invite our club to attend a Santa Monica Mountains Fund event called “Chumash Songs & Stories Workshop.” At this event, Chumash elder Dennis Garcia will share his ancestors’ culture through songs and storytelling. This is a great opportunity for us to learn more about the native history of our community! The event takes place on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th, from 10AM-12PM at SATWIWA NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN CULTURE CENTER in NEWBURY PARK. The event is free, but RSVP is required so if you are able to attend, please reply to this email and we will reserve a ticket for you (families invited as well, but rides for 4H members can also be arranged). If you attend, you’re encouraged to wear your 4H swag, and you can also include this civic engagement activity in this year’s record book. Please let me know if you have any questions. Hope you can make it! Thanks 🙂 Nate Agoura 4H Club Civic Engagement Office |
